Herzog Zwei Strategy, part one

Giving orders to your army

When you build a military unit, you also issue an order for that unit to follow. You can also issue new orders to any unit by picking it up with your Mech. Here are all the orders at your disposal.

Base DefenseBase Defense - cost: $100 - Giving orders costs money, so you want to make sure to get it right the first time. "Base Defense" is the cheapest of the lot, and a good all-purpose defensive order if you're undecided on strategy. When given, your units will stand its ground and return fire when attacked.

Circular DefenseCircular Defense - cost: $500 - A circular defense makes your unit run a perimiter defense. It costs a little more, but it has the advantage of covering more terrain with fewer units. Be sure to check their fuel levels, though. You don't want to run out of fuel.

Attack When ApproachedAttack When Approached - cost: $1000 - When you can afford it, this is the defensive order your army should follow. For example, when you give your tank this order, instead of waiting to be attacked, it will drive towards the enemy unit and attack first. Once the enemy unit is destroyed, your tank will return to its original position.

Enter Minor BaseEnter Minor Base - cost: $1800 - This is the order you give to your infantry units when dispatching them towards the minor bases. The soldier cautiously looks for the safest entry point, and goes in on that side. This order is for infantry only.

Secure BaseSecure Base - cost: $1500 - By giving this order, your infantry unit will charge headstrong into the nearest Minor Base, firing away. Sounds nice, but there's another advantage here. Notice the price? This base order is $300 cheaper than "Enter Minor Base." In the early phase of the game, that adds up to a lot of money. This order also applies to the other ground units; for instance, a tank will make a straight line towards the nearest base, where it will attack nearby enemy targets and then wait.

Home Base AttackHome Base Attack - cost: $3500 - Here is the order to attack the enemy's Home Base. when given, your unit will charge towards its target, ignoring other units or minor bases unless fired upon. Note how expensive this is. It's not a smart idea to throw high-priced tanks at a well-defended Home Base. Make sure you have some kind of a plan before you take on The Alamo.

SupplySupply - cost: $580 - This is the lone order you give to the supply truck. Again, the low price means that there's no excuse for not having a supply truck in your armada. You must also protect these defenseless units from enemy attack.
