Herzog
Zwei Strategy, part two
Advanced Defensive Tactics
Defensive
formations, involving Boats, anti-air units, and Supply Trucks.
Boat
Defense
The
difficulty in defending against boats is that they often come in
at odd angles, just out of range from your Gatling Guns or Tanks.
For a level like Strand (the islands), you have to be prepared against
assault from the sea.
For
me, a tactic that works wonders is to use Boats for nautical defense.
In the picture, you see an example of a typical formation. For these
units, select Circular Defense. This will allow
you to cover a lot of terrain with a minimum of cost.
Remember!
For the other two maps that feature water, use one or two units,
and order Attack When Approach.
Supply
Truck Formations
Supply
Trucks, essential as they are, can be a pain. That's especially
true when your anti-air units need ammo, while your truck driver
keeps spinning in circles. Here's the solution, and it's one of
the essential strategies in Herzog Zwei.
For
anti-air units such as SAM's and Gatling Guns, set up a cross formation
with a Supply Truck in the center. Use this screenshot as an example.
You want the formation tight enough so the truck doesn't run off.
With a little practice, you will have the necessary distance down
cold.
Supply
Formations and Bases

Here
is another example, this time involving one of the bases, and the
Gatling Guns. Like the earlier example, you want a cross formation
that traps the Supply Truck in the center. This time, we will use
a base for cover. Place the Gatling's at the center of each of the
four walls (a little closer than shown here). You'll want to move
one gun out of the way, and place a truck at the entrance, so it
will move inside.
Sometimes,
you'll need to fire a shot at one of the guns, which should send
the Supply Truck scurrying towards it. Once the truck is under the
base, cover up the last opening with the fourth Gun. This is an
especially powerful formation, one that repel most attackers.
Remember!
You can use the landscape as a natural barrier, creating other formations.
The islands of Strand and the trees of Oase are excellent examples.
