Zwei Strategy, part two
Harrassment, Sabotage, Running Home
Now
to some specific tactics for offense and defense.
Harrassment
Harrassment
is a simple tactic, really. It basically involves a light attack
on an opponent's HB. This is where the Motorbike comes in. It's
a relatively weak unit, which makes it a poor match against armored
cars or tanks, but it has one great asset: speed. The bikes are
the fastest unit in the game.
You
can build a Motorbike and send it out to attack the HB from, oftentimes,
just about anywhere. The purpose isn't necessarily to cause a lot
of damage, but to cause a distraction. If your friend hasn't adequately
defended their HB, they will be forced to cut and run to deal with
it.
Now
your friend has to spend more precious time biulding up his/her
defenses, while you have a free hand to capture bases, destroy enemy
units, or repair your own army.
Remember!
This usually isn't more than a harassment tool, but it works. Don't
forget, also, that the HB cannot recover lost damage, and those
little mosquito bites will accumulate.
Mech
Sabotage
Your
Mech has several main roles: deploying units, defending against
the enemy Mech, and attacking enemy units. When the other player
is distracted or temporarily knocked out, you sometimes need to
commit a little sabotage. This is largely a hit-and-run tactic,
meant to weaken your opponent's defenses at one of the minor bases,
or sometimes, the HB.
Even
if you just take out one unit per run, you've accomplished something.
That's one less unit your army needs to deal with, and one more
your friend has to replace. Sabotage whenever possible: that's the
rule.
Remember!
Be careful not to get caught in over your head. The above photo
shows what happens when you bite off more than you can chew. Three
tanks are more than able to destroy Blue's Mech.
Running
Home
It
does happen. You're in the thick of battle, lost in the moment of
a hit-and-run, when you realize your Mech's health meter is dangerously
low. You don't have enough fuel to make it to the nearest base.
What do you do?
Simple.
Transform into a robot and run home. You burn far less fuel by walking
instead of flying. You can walk almost half the length of the battlefield
on little more than gas fumes. Walk right until you reach the edge
of your nearest base, transform, then nudge until your fuel starts
to recover.
And,
if you're lucky, you can take out a SAM or supply truck on the way
home.
Remember!
Rougher terrain will drain more fuel and slow you down. So keep
an eye on your Mech's health meter.
