Herzog
Zwei Strategy, part two
A look at the maps (5-8)
Let's
jot down some more notes about general tactics needed for the second
4 levels in Herzog Zwei.
Level
5 Stadt - The most open-ended map in Herzog, which is both a
blessing and a curse. Because there's little territory or natural
barriers, it can be easy to send out swarms of infantry and convoys
against the minor bases. Motorbike Harrassment is perfect; heck,
use armored cars when you have the cash. Blue has a slight advantage
here, but bases can switch hands very easily (I've had it happen
without noticing). You can asault the HB from almost anywhere, so
take that into account.
Level
6 Eisfrei - First, be careful about the ice, which is slippery
and can be a problem. The center base (neutral) is almost always
going to be a major front, but it's not the end of the world for
whoever loses it. There's still the two bases at the corners (especially
the overlooked upper-right base), which can open up a second front
or just Harass when needed. Oh, and the boats get caught on everything,
so be careful where you're dropping them. I'd keep one nearby HB
just for defense against attacking boats.
Level
7 Waldung - You have two opions here. You can go through the
tar pits or around them. Going through sets up a D-Day assault which
can be cut down pretty badly, especially if your friend's got two
or three Gatling Guns at his closest base. Note the neutral bases.
They're out of the way, but controlling them can cut off the main
avenues, forcing your opponents into, you guessed it, that damn
tar pit. The real fight's going to be over the pits and especially
the neutral bases closest to it.
Level
8 Oase - The best level in Herzog? Options, options, options.
First, use the river as much as possible. Send boats to the enemy
HB, and keep at least one back for defense. Don't forget the neutral
bases, which are out of your way; that means something's got to
be open somewhere. Also, use the terrain to your advantage. I'd
say the closest red and blue bases (right of the river) would be
the main front, but the map is open enough for anything to happen.
