Advance Wars 2 Custom Maps
Twin City War - Advance Wars 2 - click for closeup

Advance Wars 2 is the excellent strategy game for the Gameboy Advance.

Here are some multiplayer maps that I created with the game's custom map editor. Share and enjoy!

Player: 2 - Bases: 2 - Airports: 1
Extras: 18 neutral cities, 2 neutral bases, 20 missile silos.

After years of suppressed animosity, the Twin Cities are now exploding in open battle. No more dealing with those whiny, passive-aggressive crybabies across the river. Jesse Ventura leads the attack! For 2 players.

Standing Army: You begin the match with two infantry, two APC's, and one attack copter. As is often the case, I prefer skipping the first two or three turns, and give you a standing army so you can start moving right away.

Castle Walls: Each side has two layers of metal pipe that serve as a defensive wall. There are several weak points that can be breached, which should reduce bottlenecking and traffic jams. Remember that the pipe joints have 99 hit points, so you'll need heavy firepower to break them.

Mountain Pass: The second route to take is through the mountains and across the river. There are two points near the center of the board for land vehicles to travel. Be warned, however, that these areas can be well-defended. Knowing which route to take is very important, and it depends on what your opponent is doing.

Airport: You only get one airport each, so whatever you do, don't lose it! That should go without saying, considering how close to your home base it is.

Neutral Cities: There are 18 neutral cities and 2 neutral bases on this map, split evenly between the two sides. Be sure to capture the three cities closely packed between the inner and outer walls. These will be your most important territory to defend.

Notice where the neutral bases are situated. Their location should give you a solid point to move into your opponent's territory across the river. Controlling these bases should be a top priority.

Mario's Secret Stash: Now here's my favorite feature of this map - the secret missile silos located just off the playfield. I was thinking of all those endless bonus screens from Super Mario Brothers, and maybe even the old computer game classic Spy Vs. Spy. The smaller playfield was constructed first, and the missiles were added at the end.

You'll need to break the pipe joint in order to gain access to the 10 missiles. You'll need to fly some infantry in there, but once there, everything is accessable on foot. A good strategy is to fly several infantry to the bonus area and hold them there until needed. Unleash a torrent of missiles and cripple the other army in one fell swoop!

Oh, and it goes without saying that you don't want the other player to sneak into your missile area. Keep that hole blocked and everything should be fine. What a great map.
