Oasis
is a recreation of a level from the real-time strategy classic,
Herzog Zwei. Now 4 players can battle for control of the oasis and
its surrounding cities.
Herzog
Zwei: This map is a faithful recreation of one
of the great multiplayer levels from Herzog
Zwei, the grandfather of real-time strategy games. I had to
fatten the lake to allow for four players, but other than that,
it's spot-on.
City
Blocks: Herzog Zwei involves battling over eight
or so large bases. To translate this to the world of Advance Wars,
neutral cities are grouped together in blocks of two and three.
The roads allow for greater movement of ground units.
Landers:
Everyone begins with a lander to transport units across the lake.
There's enough beachfront to land anywhere on the map, so you're
all vulnerable.
Copters:
These attack copters are sure fun. Dirt cheap, too. I couldn't give
you a transforming robot, so you get the next best thing. Lucky
you.
Missiles:
Just for kicks, I threw in four missile silos in the middle of the
lake. You'll have to fly soldiers in with a transport copter, and
don't waste them too early. Try to take control of these islands
and save the missiles for the right moment.
Gambler's
Rush : The way this map is designed, with most cities
grouped together, you may go through the gambler's highs and lows.
You may find yourself suddenly far behind your friends if you fail
to properly defend your territory.
There's
also a very real threat of becoming overstretched. There are neutral
bases to capture, but you'll still need to slog long distances on
the ground. If you get too greedy and try to take every building
in sight, you'll be stretched to the breaking point and ripe for
destruction.
In
other words, this map was just made for gamblers. Fortunes can be
made and broken in a single turn. |
