For
map #4, I really wanted to change things up and try something new.
So here comes jungle warfare, 'Nam-style. Slow, slogging, and messy
from start to end.
Soldiers:
Again, you begin with a couple Infantry units, which are perfect
for this environment, because everything is a swampy mess. Be sure
to grab some cities or bases quickly.
The
Infantry and Mechs are probably your best units, thanks to their
cheap costs, ease of movement, and lack of fuel. This won't make
for any quick battles, but that's 'Nam, man.
Arial
units: You also begin with one Copter, which is
probably the best offensive unit for this level. Since territory
isn't an issue, you will have a definite speed advantage over land-based
units.
Also
notice that your airports are well defended by the mountains. This
makes them more difficult to capture, but there is still one path
open for ground units. In other words, if you lose your airport,
you really screwed up.
Territory:
There isn't a clear space anywhere. Nearly everything is forest,
with a lot of mountains, water, and small bridges. Oh, did I mention
the shoreline, which offers no protection at all?
This
is a nightmare for anything on wheels, which includes anti-air units.
Tanks fare better, but be careful you don't drive into a dead end
or two; those mountains and waterways make moving around trecherous.
Fog
of War: For the ultimate experience, I suggest Fog
of War, as this map was pretty much designed with that in mind.
I've played using only Infantry, Mechs, and Copters, and I've done
pretty well. It's almost eerie how closely this captures the Vietnam
War.
There
are more than enough mountains to make up for recon cars, which
will never move fast enough to be useful.
Weather:
This board is perfect when the weather turns sour. It just seems
to come alive in the endless rain. I suggest setting the weather
setting to 'rain,' so you can enjoy the full Vietnam experience.
Experiment and see what works best for you. |
