| Another
abstract painting named after a person. It must be a portrait, right?
Here's what I wrote on the b-side...enjoy:
"If
the end result of abstract art is to make everything in the world
less personal (as it's broken down into its elements), then I say
it's time to shake things up. Take this painting. An abstract-expression
that ceases all connection to the physical world and becomes an
object unto itself. That's fine, but look at how artists name them.
Looks like damn serial numbers.
"Boooring!
I say this painting needs a good name. Call yours whatever you want,
but me, I'm going to name this one after my favorite supermodel,
Laetitia Casta.
"I
don't like paintings with "untitled" on them; especially
abstract ones. There was once a very good reason for doing so, but,
let's face it, it's no longer 1915 or 1920. See that date up on
top? Hmm. Time for a few new ideas. Anyone familiar with my work
knows how I rant about this, so I'll keep it simple and then open
the floor up to debate. Don't worry, it's all perfectly healthy.
Trust me. No one is about to lose their precious tenure. I've got
connections."
Of
course, it also needs to be said: the painting looks really good
(just spray paint and Liquid Paper), and Laetitia Casta is the greatest
thing since sliced bread. She's just like buttah. |
