| One
of my earliest watercolor paintings, with a title that was somewhat
disdainful of the art-school tradition of still-life paintings.
Sketching a bowl of fruit was never very popular to me. I much preferred
to be where the action was, and that wasn't with the wax fruit.
The
painting itself was probably something of a learning experience.
I wanted something a little more complex than Desert
Sands and Midnight Magic, but perhaps
the final result is a bit muddled, crowded. Mind you, at the time,
my opinion was almost exactly the opposite, but looking now, with
a much better understanding of composition and color and framing,
Bowl of Fruit is my least favorite of those three.
As
always, this is my own ramblings, so don't take it too personally
if you enjoy a painting that I don't. Artists are always more critical
of themselves, anyway. Enjoy on your own terms. |
