| This
painting has a bit more of a dark lustre, more velvet than most
of the others. That's because I used olive oil, and as everyone
who uses watercolors knows, adding oils to the mix makes for some
interesting effects. I also started with a base coating of my old
standby, gold spray paint. This adds a golden hue to all the colors
added to the canvas, much like my drawings in the 1998
Works collection. Unfortunately, the gold paint is also
waterproof -- you can guess what that does to watercolor paints.
The deterioration wasn't too bad with this painting; it held pretty
well, unlike What You Think of as
Beauty, which completely fell apart. So make that a lesson
to y'all: either don't use too much gold paint or find something
that isn't waterproof.
The
title, of course, is taken from Bob Marley. I just wanted something
that was positive, uplifting, less jokey.
This
painting has been sold. Let's hope it's still in one
piece. |
