| The
name of this painting is actually a punch-line from the MTV animated
series Daria. That show was a wonderful source of dry wit
and sarcastic wisecracks; Daria struck me as a modern-day Groucho
Marx. Ironically, this cartoon character was more real than any
of the pre-fabricated, factory-issue pop stars and "reality
shows" that MTV drowns in. Let's be honest, kids: this network
sucks. I'll spare you the "I remember when MTV played music
videos" routine.
For
this painting, I wanted to focus a little more on the texture and
keep things and keep the color subdued. There's not a lot of color,
but you can see the terrific water effects on the paints. Everything
just flows and sways.
The
b-side is where the real love lies. It's another one of those terrific
collages, similar to The Cookie Incident
or the b-sides to some of my watercolors. This may be my favorite
of the whole series; there's just so much to look at and so much
variety. And, yes, that's Laetitia Casta, French supermodel par
excellence, featured in the drawings that point back to my earlier
Model Portraits series. Is
she available?
If
so, then all I need is a yacht, a pair of glasses, and my best Cary
Grant impression. I also watched some Charlie Chaplin movies, so
I'm almost certain to win Laetitia over. Hooray!
