Chick is Hot! When the time came to name this portrait, I wondered
what the college boys at the U of M campus (where I live nearby)
would say if they saw this in a gallery. That pretty much sums up
the intelligence of your typical American male. Woo! Dude! Woah!
Uhh...
You
have to mock that kind of frat mentality, because, after all, this
is the future of America. Kind of sobering, don't you think? Those
dumb kids turning cars over because their sports team won a championship
will one day have their fingers on The Button. In other words, we're
all doomed.
Anyway,
here is another playful tribute to the summer months, or weeks,
as it is in Minnesota. This piece is another solid entry, bright,
well-composed and good sense of movement. Very much a modern version
of some '60s Woodstock-Jimi Hendrix vibe. Again, I was never deliberately
trying to go for some LSD trip, I was only trying to fuse my interests
in abstract expressionism and pop art, which to my mind had never
really been done. They seemed like different worlds, and I wanted
to bridge those worlds together.
This
was just about the last portrait in the series, which is when I
was finally hitting a stride. I think of these as templates of sort
for a style of portraits of all sorts, all people. |
