| She
Moves in Mysterious Ways was the first portrait completed during
a weeklong session in February, 1999. After putting together the
first five model portraits (Victoria's
Secrets, Kari, Untitled
#3, Remembering Marie,
Nemesisters), I wanted to
really see where I could take the concept. In a lot of ways, doing
these was fairly liberating; I guess that's true about any real
learning experience.
I
really like how the color scheme came together with this piece.
There's a dark, monochromatic feel, but it's noticably brighter
than the earlier five. The model's pose, I must add, is great. Very
confident and full of life. Finally, the title is taken from the
U2 song on the Achtung Baby album (another wonderful U2 album),
which is moody and colorful and full of textures that come out from
everywhere.
I
also love the pose. She just carries this great strength about her;
a confidence, yes, but also an assurance and wide-eyed awareness.
I can identify with those qualities. I want to emulate those qualities.
But, then again, perhaps I'm projecting those qualities. We're venturing
into Scott McCloud territory. |
