| "A
Love Supreme," of course, is the name of Coltrane's 1965 jazz
masterpiece, and one of the greatest jazz records ever made. This
has been a favorite album of mine for the past year, so I just had
to give thanks by naming a painting after it.
In
my mind's eye, different arts reflect the same reality. So music
and painting and film and literature, it's all the same to me. One
reason I became so interested in fine art was because of my love
of music. I wanted to paint the pictures of the songs in my head.
This
creation is a perfect example. Wonderfully textured, many connecting
shapes, and daubs of color everywhere. That's how Coltrane sounds
in my head. The painting you see was one of the earlier creations;
when I finished, I knew I was on to something special. I love color
and all that expressionist goodness; especially when given a rich
detail and texture. You can see how I've improved in my art since
'98.
There's
a great use of color with these digital paintings, and this is one
of the best examples. I was aiming for something similar to a coral
reef. |
