| This
is the first of a series of "circuit board" paintings.
Named so, surprise, because they look like circuit boards.
A
lot of these digital works were created as Quake textures. There
is a sizable fan community devoted to the first-person shooters,
including people who design their own game maps and graphic textures.
I stumbled across a couple of them, and I really enjoyed their handiwork.
For most of this crowd, creating these virtual worlds was a labor
of love, so I had to respect their dedication to their own little
piece of art. Who knows -- maybe someday we'll see all this in a
future museum?
This
is actually a very productive idea, and one that I'd suggest that
you follow as well. Give it a try sometime and practice your Photoshop/Paint
Shop Pro skills.
Anyway,
their work in creating realistic textures -- floors, walls, metal
gratings, pipes, and the like -- inspired me to try my hand. With
some effort, I was able to create a lot of pretty cool creations;
at least, that's what I'd like to think. "Circuit Boards"
is one example of that. It's a style influenced in part by Jasper
Johns, and partly by a need to create cool circuit textures. |
