the Power Back
comes from the first Rage Against the Machine album; a great debut
from one of the most important bands of the '90s. It's almost tragic
that they imploded after only three studio albums (and one "Garage
Days" covers album), especially when such a charged social
message is so badly needed. Where are all the other political bands?
Now
this is a painting that I really like. Lots of explosive reds and
browns just bursting with energy. Just the opposite of some stupid
bowl of fruit. Keeping with the theme, the b-side carries a critique
of ongoing efforts to sell the American public on a "privatizing"
of Social Security. I wrote this before the dot-com bust, before
the 2000 election, before the corporarte scandals. The fact that
political conservatives are still pushing for this insane idea,
after all we've seen the last few years, is just baffling.
America
today often seems at the mercy of wealthy, white men who seem almost
nostalgic for the days of Charles Dickens. and it's only because
the population is so ignorant and disinterested that their agenda
has any legs. The real question is, what are you going to do about
it? |
