| For
the record, 1999 has nothing to do with the Prince song. Remember
all through that year, when that damn song was played on every radio
station every - what? - five minutes?
This
was the seventh or eigth painting in a series of acrylics on canvas.
I wanted something that had a lot of kinetic energy, something that
had a New Year's feel to it. I painted on an unprimed canvas, which
made one hell of a mess; let that be a lesson to you. Throughout
the year, I made a series of "1999" paintings: Valentines'
Day 1999, The Ides of March, Easter
1999. At the time, I envisioned doing this every year, but I've
lost track. I may do this again in the future, though.
This
painting has been sold. Good think I took a picture, eh? |
