Midori
is the Japanese word for green, for those at home keeping
score. I'm thinking of giving a lot of these newest paintings Japanese
names; partially as a tribute and thank-you to everyone visiting
this website from Japan, and, well, mostly because I'm trying to
learn this language of yours. I think I'm now at the level of a
two-year-old. I can count to ten and name colors. Whee.
Learning
second languages is much easier when you're still a toddler, or
so I'm told. It isn't a difficult language per se, thanks to phonetics
that are already familiar to American ears. There's just more to
learn: two phonetic alphabets, and an endless collection of Chinese
pictoral characters. The Chinese written language goes back thousands
of years, and is among the oldest living languages on Earth. Heck,
maybe it is the oldest. |
