For
this small collection of digital paintings, I came upon the phrase
akiyama, which means "autumn mountain." It is
a phrase that I enjoyed, and I think it captures the spirit and
color you see before you.
Aki
is the Japanese word for autumn, and yama is the word for
mountain. According to my Kanji textbook (a book titled Read
Japanese Today, which is very useful), Akiyama is also a family
name. You can appreciate the way names are taken from words describing
nature; it gives one a sense of communion with the natural world,
a connection that is all too fragile. We're losing that connection
in a lot of ways, and I think it shows.
You
don't have to hide yourselves behind shopping malls and SUVs to
know that. But the real world is still out there, waiting for us
to remember who we are. |
